SOB Downtown to Open in Mid-April

Get ready for the long-awaited SOB Downtown to open its doors. The casual upscale restaurant at 345 South Main next to the now-closed SOB Gastro Pub is slated is slated to open around the middle of April.

SOB Downtown guests can relax as soon as they walk through the door. “We’ve got a lounge area in the front where people can have room to relax and get on their computers and do some work if they want, or just hang out with friends.

Developer planning ‘urban, townhouse community’ on South Main Street

A developer is planning a 15-unit “urban, townhouse community” on South Main Street.

The townhomes are planned for a vacant, blighted parcel at the southwest corner of the intersection of South Main Street and Carolina Avenue. The 0.7-acre, triangle-shaped lot is also bordered by the Illinois Central Railroad line.

The history of the Lorraine Motel — and why it’s a must-visit

The Lorraine Motel in downtown Memphis had a storied history even before April 4, 1968, when Martin Luther King Jr., who was staying at the motel to support the Black sanitation workers’ strike, was shot and killed on his motel room’s balcony. It was listed in the Negro Motorist Green Book, a compilation of businesses like hotels, restaurants, salons and gas stations that welcomed African Americans during the Jim Crow era.

Little Bettie Pizza and Snacks At Wiseacre and Andrew Michael’s Downtown collaboration, it’s amore.

Could this be one of the biggest ever crossover events to come to Memphis? And no, it’s not Avengers: Endgame. The latest team-up action is a joint venture between two eminently recognizable brands in Bluff City’s hospitality industry. Wiseacre founders Kellan and Davin Bartosch are pairing up with veteran restaurant duo Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman to create Little Bettie, a pizza stand at Wiseacre’s new Downtown location, Wiseacre 2.

Huling Station: New outdoor dining room opens in Memphis’ South Main Arts District

Outdoor dining space to open off South Main

The Daily Memphian. September 17, 2020. Perhaps as early as Saturday, half a block of Downtown Memphis will be closed off to provide outdoor dining and work space for folks who have had it with working in the house.

The space, which will remain through the end of the year, is on Huling, running west from South Main, which will not close. The alley between South Main and Front Street will remain accessible.
