Clean & Green Assistant


Under the supervision of the Clean & Green Manager, the Clean & Green Assistant (CGA) is responsible for cleaning, picking up trash and waste (to include pet/human waste), and removing debris in the Downtown area. The CGA will also assist with plantings, watering, and landscaping maintenance. The CGA will clean the DMC offices and parking garages from time to time. The position primarily involves working outdoors. In addition, the position involves assisting with cleaning, setup, and breakdown for Downtown activation events such as Food Truck Thursday, Open on Main, and other DMC and Downtown events and activations. The CGA will interact with visitors, residents, tourists, vendors, employees, teammates, businesses, and others in Downtown Memphis, which requires a friendly, respectful, and professional demeanor.



  • Spend at least 90% of working hours outdoors cleaning and removing trash and waste in the Downtown area
  • Assist with clean & green projects and initiatives
  • Perform light maintenance and repair work
  • Report cleanliness and safety concerns and unusual circumstances to proper authorities
  • Transport items such as tables, chairs, AV equipment, etc. to and from events and programs
  • Assist with cleaning and prepping event spaces and temporary activations, e.g., pop-up shops
  • Light maintenance and repair work
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Outgoing and friendly disposition; ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to remain flexible in an ever-changing environment; adapt well to different situations
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Ability to drive an electric cart
  • Ability to operate basic cleaning, landscaping, and watering equipment and use basic tools
  • Basic knowledge of and interest in Downtown and the City of Memphis
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Neat and professional appearance
  • Stable and dependable work history with references
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check
  • Willing to submit to substance screening at time of employment and random screenings while employed
  • Must be able to drive and have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older as required by applicable law and possess a high school diploma or GED



  • Mainly outdoors
  • Full-time shifts may vary to include morning, evening, and occasional weekends
