Downtown to get new veterans rec center and more
The Downtown Memphis Commission’s Design Review Board on Wednesday, March 5, approved a new mailing center, a sports area for veterans and an updated multifamily building.
A vacant and boarded-up property at 849 Jackson Ave. will be converted into the Jackson Mail Center — a 1,200-square-foot shipping and mailing center.
The Center City Development Corp. in September granted developer Roosevelt Bonds a $24,000 Good Neighbor Grant for the $130,000 renovation project.
The renovation includes six parking spaces, new paint, additional lighting fixtures and replacing doors and garages.
