If MLGW moves headquarters, utility will stay Downtown, CEO says

Memphis Light, Gas and Water’s massive operations could change in the coming years, shifting the city’s industrial geography and potentially opening up key real estate for other uses. 

MLGW CEO Doug McGowen presented the utility’s facilities plan to the MLGW Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, March 5. The presentation was just for discussion, and votes could come in the coming weeks. Most of the proposed changes would require approval from both the board and the Memphis City Council. 

Downtown headquarters could change

McGowen also updated the MLGW board on the utility’s plans for its Downtown future. This follows the Memphis City Council's expression of interest in the company’s headquarters, which is located at 220 S. Main Street.
