Back Alley String Band will be making their Memphis debut at South Main Sounds! Music 7 to 9!
Back Alley String Band is a trio based in North Mississippi and Memphis that plays a mixture of bluegrass, old time Appalachian, jug band, Irish trad, hill country blues, and jazz, both originals and covers.
Andy Ratliff fronts the band and plays guitar, banjo, and mandolin. He worked as a touring musician and session musician in Nashville for a decade and brings a deep and eclectic knowledge of music to the table, especially roots music.
John Kveen works as a session musician and touring musician playing electric and upright bass for a number of bands including Squirrel Nut Zippers, Jimbo Mathus, Adrian & Meredith, Trenton Ayers & WolfEagle, and various artists associated with a non-profit based in North Carolina called the Music Maker Foundation.
John Kilgore plays guitar, ukulele, sings, and works as a recording engineer for the Music Maker Foundation and at Zebra Ranch, the late Jim Dickinson’s studio in Coldwater, MS. He plays in the Memphis-based bands Spaceman's Dead Friends and Delta Stardust.
