The National Civil Rights Museum will officially open its newest outdoor addition, the BlueCross Healthy Place at Founders Park, on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, with a ribbon-cutting. This revitalized green space, made possible by the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation, invites the public to gather, reflect, and engage with the legacy of the civil rights movement in a powerful and accessible setting.

The celebration focuses on health and community connection, featuring activities such as pop-up yoga and group fitness, local community organizations and resources, arts & crafts, book giveaways, lawn games, storytelling, performances, line dancing, and a drumming circle.

Situated between South Main Street and Mulberry Street, Founders Park connects key points of history: the entrance to the National Civil Rights Museum and the very balcony where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spent his final moments. The site also features the new Legacy Terrace, overlooking the area from which Dr. King’s assassin fired the fatal shot—now transformed into a point of public reflection and hope.
