Join Memphis in a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on what would have been his 95th birthday. It's a chance to reflect, honor, and celebrate Dr. King's legacy.

The National Civil Rights Museum, located at the former Lorraine Motel and site of Dr. King's assassination, is one of the most important sites in Memphis in terms of history and the city's role in the worldwide struggle for Civil Rights. For the King Day celebration, the museum allows free entry from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

King Day will kick off yearlong observances themed “History Moves Us Forward” as the Museum focuses on major civil rights milestones with anniversaries in 2024. The year includes highlights of the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ending legal segregation, Mississippi Freedom Summer dedicated to voter education, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party that challenged at the Democratic Convention, and the presentation of the Nobel Peace Prize to Dr. King.

After your visit to the museum, the Memphis Grizzlies NBA team will continue its tradition of hosting the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Game against the Golden State Warriors at FedEx Forum at 5 p.m.
