Join us for the April 4th commemoration and a call to action. Featuring a keynote address from the daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Rev. Nontombi Naomi Tutu, this evening will move you, challenge you, and This ceremony takes place on the very ground where Dr. King drew his last breath, at the historic Lorraine Motel balcony. Among those sharing testimony is Clara Ester, a Memphis native and lifelong civil rights activist who is one of the last living people to have stood on that balcony on April 4, 1968. For more than fifty years she has turned that experience into a life of community organizing, faith leadership, and advocacy for racial justice. When she speaks, she will not be recounting history from a distance. For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will also be streamed live on the Museum's YouTube channel. Program Highlights: Live music from the award-winning Tennessee Mass Choir and vocalist Karen Brown Reflections from the 2025 student Keeper of the Dream Award winners with perspectives from a new generation of leaders A living testimony from Clara Ester, a surviving witness on the balcony of Room 306 on where King was slain Tributes and a moment of silence at 6:01 pm, the moment of the assassination |
