All aboard!—Trolley buses will be returning to Downtown Memphis

The trolleys are gearing up for a comeback with a twist in the Downtown Memphis area.

The Memphis Area Transit Authority is set to reintroduce rubber-wheeled trolleys along Main Street very soon.

After a summer hiatus due to budget challenges and the need for costly upgrades, MATA is thrilled to announce that these trolley buses are ready to hit the road within the next week or two.

Jerred Price, President of the Downtown Neighborhood Association, released the following statement:

"This is a fantastic blessing for our downtown residents, tourists, and businesses! We’ve all missed our beloved trolleys, which serve as the heartbeat of our community. Many businesses depend on this service to bring patrons through their doors. While these trolley buses are a great temporary solution, we’re eager for MATA to prioritize the restoration of the traditional trolley service. The Downtown Neighborhood Association is committed to advocating for a clear timeline that doesn’t stretch on forever"
