At Dogchella, it’s all about love for our four-legged friends
Jasmine Raiford was one of the few people at Grind City Brewing on Saturday afternoon who didn’t have a dog with her. But there was a good reason for that.
For several hours Saturday afternoon, the Uptown taproom helped celebrate the birthdays of two local celebrities, the English bulldogs Sir Meatball and Milkshake, as part of the annual “Dogchella” celebration. Dozens of people came to the party that featured vendors, rescue groups, a costume contest, beer and food trucks, most of them bringing their fluffy four-legged friends to join the celebration.
But Raiford was there because she knew there would be adoptable dogs at the event, and she’s looking for the perfect friend for her and her 2-year-old daughter who is autistic. Raiford didn’t make any final decisions Saturday, but she was eyeing Vinnie, a sweet tripod who is available for adoption through Team Memphis, a local rescue group.
