Beale Street Live music series kicks off
With a debut video Friday from local musician Savannah Brister, a new event called Beale Street Live kicked off what organizers hope will be a regular music showcase to highlight the historic street and the music it has inspired.
Beale Street Live is planned to be a new music series recorded on Beale Street organizers said they hope will appear roughly once a month. The performances, meant to be intimate gatherings highlighting the songs and music, will be recorded at different places on the street.
“We have so many amazing artists in Memphis and many of them perform on Beale Street weekly and in various places around town,” said Milton Howery III, vice president of marketing, communications and events for the Downtown Memphis Commission. “So the thought process was let’s create Beale Street as the backdrop and place the artist on Beale Street and put that into a live recording so that it lives beyond the moments of the people in the audience.”
