CEO of Downtown Memphis Commission outlines safety plan for ‘Independence Day on the River’
Many are expected in Downtown Memphis this Fourth of July weekend, including for the Downtown Memphis Commission’s “Independence Day on the River” at Tom Lee Park.
Celebrations begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, and the night will conclude with a drone show and fireworks spectacular at 9.
The head of the commission says safety is paramount for the free celebration and outlined some rules for those who plan to attend.
“You should bring a clear bag to bring inside,” said DMC President and CEO Chandell Ryan. “You can bring a lawn chair, you can bring a blanket, but all of those things will be searched. There will be screenings at the checkpoints. So we will have an enhanced presence of MPD all across downtown to keep all of us safe.”
