Downtown Memphis Welcomes 10,000+ for 901 Day Celebration
Downtown Memphis came alive this past weekend as more than 10,000 people gathered to celebrate everything that makes our city special on 901 Day.
The day was filled with music, food, family fun, and Memphis pride, with Mayor Paul Young noting the positive energy that carried throughout the event.
“Disregarding all the negativity you hear about Memphis, it felt real safe. Everybody seemed like they were having a good time—it’s children out here, it’s families, it’s a vibe,” Mayor Young said. “We’ve worked to make sure the area is safe and protected, and MPD was in full force. No major incidents were reported, which speaks to the spirit of the day.”
Beyond the joy of the celebration, Mayor Young highlighted the economic impact of 901 Day. “Our hope is even after the event ends, people will explore other neighborhoods across Memphis to eat, shop, and support local businesses,” he said.
The celebration also brought unforgettable moments on stage, including nine-year-old viral star Alaynna Dot performing “Chickenhead” alongside Memphis legend Project Pat, with surprise guest La Chat of Three 6 Mafia joining the fun.
For Memphis artists, the day was about more than entertainment—it was about community. “We just keep it positive, let people know if they’re still breathing, they’ve got a chance,” said Project Pat.
