Downtown sports bar doubling in size
Max’s Sports Bar doubles down
Max’s Sports Bar will be twice its current size after an expansion of its Downtown space is completed in late summer.
The bar opened in 2007 at 115 G.E. Patterson Ave., and owner Max Lawhon said there haven’t been extensive renovations since then. What they plan to do now has been inspired by customer suggestions.
“This is all stuff that we need to grow,” Lawhon said.
The bar’s patio was recently demolished to make room for a new, 1,000-square-foot, indoor/outdoor patio. The new patio will include 650 square feet of climate-controlled space as well as a wet bar, bathroom, pull-down glass-trifold garage doors, skylights, indoor seating and several TVs. There will also be an exterior door to access the patio without having to go through the front.
“We will have central heating and air in it, so those other 45 weeks where you can’t sit outside in Memphis, we will still be able to use it,” he said. “We’ll also have 400 square feet of true patio space.”
