Former Cabinet Shop apartments set to become boutique hotel
In June, the Shelby County Land Use Control Board approved a special use permit for Stallion Apartments, LLC to convert the 28-unit apartment building at 436 S. Front St. into a boutique full-service hotel. The item was approved via the board's consent agenda.
Amit Aggarwal and Rashi Krishnan of Stallion Apartments LLC purchased the Front Street property in September. The new owners renamed the Cabinet Shop into The Stallion. In February, they were awarded a $40,000 exterior improvement grant from the Center City Development Corp., an affiliate board of the Downtown Memphis Commission, for improvements to the building's facade and signage.
"We look forward in repositioning the Stallion in the marketplace in a way that will further cement the viability of the South Main neighborhood," Whitehead Law managing partner Josh Whitehead wrote in a letter of intent.
In the letter, Whitehead said the 28 units will all be family-focused and will contain a crib. In addition a 24/7 front desk and fitness area will be added to the first floor of the building, along with a pick-up and drop-off area adjacent to the building's basement garage along Nettleton Avenue.
