Hard Times Deli owners to open bar in Edge District

The group behind Hard Times Delicatessen is opening a new dive bar directly behind the deli at 655 Marshall Ave. 

Gussied Up, co-owned by chefs Harrison Downing, Cole Jeanes and Schuyler O’Brien, will open early next year in the 1,100-square-foot space once known as Escape Alley Sundry.

The dive bar is part of a three-suite development that includes Hard Times and retailer Slowdown Dry Goods and Kelsey Berry Pottery. Gussied Up will use the same kitchen as Hard Times, and all three will share restrooms and utilities. 

“We’ve always wanted to do a little dive bar concept,” Downing said. “We love dive bars, and Memphis has a couple, but we think we can put our little twists on it a little bit.”
