How to keep interest in Downtown Memphis ahead of big projects
The Memphis Art Museum is starting to take on the look of its renderings. The Sterick Building is lighted at night for the first time in decades. And the 100 North Main Building, the tallest structure in all of the city, has completed a clean-out period, although its redevelopment has been put on hold.
For Chandell Ryan, the president and CEO of the Downtown Memphis Commission, those steps are “building a runway” toward a new phase of Downtown activity.
“I think one of the things we can do right now outside of cleaning and making things beautiful and more attractive is just inviting people to come Downtown and enjoy and revisit the spaces that they’ve enjoyed,” Ryan said on the WKNO-TV program “Behind The Headlines.”
