Memphis receives another $50 million grant for Downtown Memphis safety
The Tennessee General Assembly approved another $50 million grant for Downtown Memphis Public Safety.
In January, the State of Tennessee Safety Grant awarded the commission $74 million to support public safety and infrastructure improvements on Beale Street and the surrounding area.
The Downtown Memphis Commission reports that improvements may involve:
- Strategic road diets and traffic improvements to support peak event travel and high visitation.
- Sidewalk accessibility improvements in compliance with ADA standards.
- Streetscape enhancements for elements such as landscaping and hardscape features.
- Street and pedestrian lighting upgrades to increase visibility and create a safer, more welcoming environment.
- New safety enhancements that support active use of the district during both daytime and nighttime hours.
