New mural, furniture coming to Edge District alley
An Edge District alley is getting a glow-up.
On Wednesday, June 4, the Downtown Memphis Commission Design Review Board approved the addition of murals, furniture, lighting and plants to the alley between Ugly Art Co., Bar Limina and the Cnct. Design spaces.
The alley sits between Marshall and Madison avenues, and the space is outside of 635 Madison Ave.
“The alley will connect the site, strengthening access to a central courtyard and pedestrian traffic within the Edge District,” according to a DRB staff report. “This area is primed to support cross-pollination and encourage creativity widely.”
Currently, the building at 635 Madison has exterior murals from Son! Visual Co. artist Eddie Chaffer, who painted fish, plants, birds and mallard ducks on the walls.
Patrick Brown, project architect with Cnct. Design, said the art alley is 50% complete, and the approved additions will create a full and inviting space to the Edge District.
