Riverside Drive reopens with focus on pedestrian safety, slowing Downtown Memphis traffic
After months of renovations, Riverside Drive alongside Tom Lee Park reopened on Sept. 8.
The section of road has been closed as the city added new infrastructure to slow down traffic, a move Memphis Mayor Paul Young and Chief of Development and Infrastructure John Zeanah said will lead to safer conditions for people walking through the park.
"It's going to lead to a safer, slower, more pedestrian-friendly Riverside Drive," Young said during a press conference ahead of the ribbon-cutting. "This street is a vital part of getting together our riverfront and the rest of Downtown. It connects Memphians and visitors alike to Tom Lee Park, to the river and to the heart of our city."
