Spring sprung early — and with it, so does heightened Downtown security
Downtown’s daytime population is about 85% what it was before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Downtown Memphis Commission President and CEO Chandell Ryan’s estimation.
“That’s higher than a lot of major cities — higher than Chicago, higher than a lot of places,” Ryan said on the WKNO-TV program “Behind The Headlines.” “So I think we’re in a good sweet spot.”
The DMC has $100 million in funding — $74 million of it from the State of Tennessee — to spend on what amounts to a rerouting of how Downtown works and moves, linking up attractions that in several months will include the new Memphis Art Museum.
