St. Jude Marathon will be first large-scale event for MPD's Downtown Command Center
The annual St. Jude Marathon will bring tens of thousands of people to the streets of Downtown Memphis Saturday, and runners aren't the only ones who'll need to be kept safe during the race.
The Memphis Police Department's (MPD) new Downtown Command Center will be watching over everyone, including volunteers and spectators.
The Downtown Command Center opened in April, serving as an extension of the MPD Real-Time Crime Center, allowing the department to tackle crime in two locations at once. With its high-tech cameras, they have the ability to zoom in on license plates and faces, even from blocks away.
