The mushroom queen is back to support local chefs
The mushroom queen has returned with a new concept
Shroomlicious Meals owner Daishu McGriff, known as the “mushroom queen,” is opening a new concept in the former location of The Gourmet Gallery Downtown.
The Artist Table will open in early fall, hosting private and in-house events featuring diverse cuisines at its new space at 412 S. Main St., connected to the art gallery Urevbu Contemporary.
The “creative pop-up” concept centers on chef residencies, featuring guest chefs who will stay in Memphis for three to six months on a rotating schedule. McGriff will stay on as an in-house chef.
“The concept is not like a traditional restaurant; it’s like an event space,” McGriff said. “We’re aiming for an upscale space that can celebrate the culinary arts and creatives.”
The menu, which will evolve based on the chef’s preferences, will feature interchangeable options, with a “vegan-first” presentation, and each dish will have a non-vegan version available.
Private events and dinners hosted by The Artist Table, featuring the guest chef’s cuisine, will be open to the public but require a reservation.
McGriff is vegan and her specialty is serving high-quality plant-based food, attracting thousands of followers to her social media, “Vegan Pimps of Memphis.” She said she wanted more vegan options, not just a small section on a menu.
