Tonica's new Downtown location serves up all the Midtown favorites

Whenever a local favorite expands, it's a good sign for the community — whenever that local favorite has a great happy hour, it's a great sign.

Tonica, along with the Downtown Memphis Commission (DMC), hosted a ceremonial ribbon-cutting on Dec. 18 for its new Downtown location at 265 S. Front St. (The restaurant opened in October.)

"We want to welcome you with large and open arms," DMC President and CEO Chandell Ryan said.

During the ribbon cutting, owner John Paul Gagliano cited how restaurants and the service industry have always been in his family, sharing a memory about how he used to work the cash register at his mother's deli when he was young. The dream of opening and owning a restaurant in Memphis was also the goal for Gagliano. To his credit, the restaurateur has several now in the area, including Tonica Midtown, Ecco on Overton Park and Libro at Laurelwood.
