UTHSC names new College of Medicine dean
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) has named a new executive dean for its College of Medicine.
Dr. Michael Hocker is stepping into the role starting in July, the university announced on March 18. Hocker is taking over for interim dean Dr. G. Nicholas Verne.
Hocker most recently has served as dean and chief academic officer for the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) School of Medicine and SVP for the UT Health RGV clinical practice in South Texas.
“As the next dean, my vision for excellence and success will focus on educating, developing, encouraging, and leveraging the unique abilities of the extraordinary students, residents, fellows, and faculty at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center,” Dr. Hocker said in a news release. “We will develop health care leaders, advance human health through high-quality clinical care, advance knowledge through research and education, and serve the community of Tennessee.”
