Where things stand with Memphis museum projects
Two Memphis museum projects have reached construction milestones.
Construction on the Memphis Art Museum, what the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art will become when it moves Downtown, has continued.

What will happen to the current Brooks Museum building is still up in the air.
The City of Memphis requested proposals during the Strickland administration, but none of those ideas advanced to the implementation stage.
“(The Young) administration has taken a step back to reassess the process and ensure any future use of the Brooks building reflects current community needs and long-term potential for the property,” said Memphis COO Antonio Adams. “We’re exploring options that prioritize public value, align with park goals and contribute to the creative and civic life of Memphis. A new direction will be announced once a clear and impactful path forward is identified.”
“We are evaluating a range of opportunities that would ensure the building continues to serve the public in a meaningful way,” Adams said. “Our goal is to align any future use with the broader vision for Overton Park as a vibrant cultural and community destination.”
The 2018 request for qualifications specifically ruled out residential or industrial uses for the museum.
